Adjunct Professor

I'm originally from Salvador, Bahia, the colonial capital of Brazil, where attended Department of Electrical Engineering of the Universidade Federal da Bahia supported by the Scientific Initialization program of the "Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento" (CNPq), within which I underwent extra-curricular training in Mathematics, particularly in Complex Analysis and Combinatorial Algebra, obtaining a B.Eng. degree in Electronics Engineering and a Latu Sensu (specialization) degree in Telecommunications Engineering in 1996 and 1997, respectively. In 1995, I was also 1 of 2 undergraduate students selected by the Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft for an internship with the Department of Physics of the Carl von Ossietzky Universität in Oldenburg, Germany.
In 1997, I was selected into the ``Mombukagakusho'' scholarship program by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, entering the Yokohama National University where I underwent 2 years of Japanese language training and subsequently attended the Graduate School of Engineering of the YNU under the support of the Rotary Yoneyama Memorial Foundation, the Yokohama Industrial Association, the Takaku International Scholarship Foundation, the Futaba Electric Memorial Foundation, the Honjo International Scholarship Foundation, and the Tokyo University's "Uenohara" Research Achievement Award, obtaining the M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics, Electrical and Computer Engineering, in 2001 and 2004 respectively, both under the supervision of Prof. Ryuji Kohno. As a graduate student at the YNU, I also worked as a Junior Research Scientist at the Advanced Telecommunications Laboratory, a section of the Computer Science Laboratory of Sony Corporation in Tokyo, Japan.
In March 2004 I joined the Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC) of the University of Oulu as a post-doctoral research fellow, and was appointed Adjunct Professor in May 2006. In this position I have been leading several European Union Integrated Projects, including PULSERS (as Leader of WP4, 2005 - 2006), PULSERS II (as Leader of WP3a, 2007 - 2008) and EUWB (as Leader of WP4, 2009 - 2011). I am interested in a variety of topics including Communications Theory, Sensor, Relay and Autonomous Networks, Space-Time Coding and Signal Processing, Ultra-Wideband Communications, Smart Antennas and Beampattern Synthesis, etc.
