IMT-A EVALUATION
Introduction
The radio interface development process of International Telecommunication Unit Radiocommunication sector (ITU-R) aiming for the recommendations of International Telecommunications-Advanced (IMT-A) systems is ongoing. The WINNER+ project is registered in ITU-R as an external evaluator group for IMT-Advanced process. The candidate radio interface technologies for IMT-A systems have already been submitted to ITU-R. The purpose of the project “IMT-Advanced Evaluation” is to participate in the evaluation work in WINNER+ project. In particular, the performance of 3GGP Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) based proposal is evaluated through system level simulations. Evaluation is performed in close collaboration with the partners of WINNER+ project and the results are submitted to ITU-R through WINNER+ project.
The Main Focus of the Project
The goal of the project is to provide reliable evaluations of IMT-Advanced compliant technologies that are to be submitted to ITU-R development of radio interface recommendations. The ITU-R process is an important activity for the worldwide development and consensus building of the new IMT-Advanced radio system(s). Participation in the evaluation process provides opportunity to be in the forefront action of tomorrow telecommunication systems. In addition, the developed system level simulator based on the ITU-R IMT-A evaluation specifications is important tool for further research in CWC.
Project Structure
The work in the evaluation project has been divided into separate work packages (WP), covering different phases of the project. The work in WP1 (Evaluations planning and co-ordination) includes the planning of the project work and collaboration with other WINNER+ partners in the IMT-A evaluation. Close collaboration with other partners in the IMT-A evaluation is needed in order to ensure that methods and algorithms are correctly modelled in the simulators. The objective of WP2 (Simulator development) is to develop a system level simulator which can be used to assess performance of the LTE-A proposal. The simulation capabilities of the simulator have to be updated according to the evaluation requirements of ITU-R. The work in WP3 (Evaluation of the IMT-Advanced technology proposals) focuses on the main objective of the project, which is the performance assessment of the selected IMT-A technology proposals, using the simulation guidelines defined by ITU-R. The objective of WP4 (Reporting) is to participate in the reporting of evaluation results to ITU-R through WINNER+ project. After executing the simulation campaigns, the results are summarised, and conclusions are drawn on the system’s performance based on the simulation results.
