In the 6HOP project, the issues related to fully IPv6-based wireless networks that involve different standards and usage scenarios
will be investigated. These include support for end users’ mobility, packet routing and compensation for link quality variations.
Although 6HOP approach is native IPv6 based, it will be providing transition and inteoperability mechanisms for IPv4 legacy networks.
6HOP intends to study WAL and PEP performance on multihop heterogeneous environment, where we are studying the end-to-end
transparency and performance. The innovative aspect in the 6HOP project is also that we are going to use also IPv6. Morover, we are
interested in to study, if the WAL/PEP type concept could be used to provde "home" for transition mechanisms from IPv4 to IPv6, that
is could we implement e.g. NAT-PT, brokering and tunneling methods as WAL/PEP modules. The goal of the project is trying to study
and implement PEP concepts to be used in future heterogeneous 4G networking environment. We do this by taking into account not
only theoretical protocol boosting and booster issues but also considering a real practical implementation problems (and requirements
of terminals) as boundary conditions.
