Why not discover Lapland while in Finland or combine your trip with a visit to other Nordic Countries or Russia?

Lapland

The magical Lapland begins only 200 kilometres north from Oulu.

The city of Rovaniemi – the permanent residence of Santa Claus - is located in Finnish Lapland in the Arctic Circle. Rovaniemi can be easily reached from Oulu by train in only 2h 30 mins.

Many people go to Rovaniemi just to cross the Arctic Circle for which one can get an actual Arctic Circle Crossing Certificate. A definite “must” when visiting Rovaniemi is also Arktikum - a science centre, museum and a unique architectural sight.

The train from Oulu goes all the way to Kolari from where the exploration of Lapland can continue. Kittilä and Ivalo can also be reached by plane from Helsinki.

Sweden and Norway

Sweden and Norway offer a large number of attractive destinations, once you have first discovered Finland... Many adventurous travellers rent a car from Oulu and drive all the way to North Cape in Norway - the upmost part of Europe.

Russia and Estonia

Finland’s eastern border neighbour Russia is at an easy access from Helsinki. St. Petersburg - the historical city of the Tsars - can be reached by train in 5 h 40 min.

Estonia’s capital Tallinn has a charming medieval town centre with lots to see. There are several ferry lines between Helsinki and Tallinn. Flights from Oulu and Helsinki to Tallinn are also available.
